1 June 2015

Hello all! I feel as though May has gone very quickly, with busy Uni times and the daylight disappearing very quickly as we head into winter. Lately it's been freezing, I need to go shopping for some more heavy duty clothing items. I have to say, while I've enjoyed the autumn weather, I think it's time to move onto another month as I get closer and closer to a month off Uni! I can't wait to have nothing to do. It leaves so much possibility. (But in the end, I'll probably be on the internet all day in bed). I won't ramble any longer... here are some of my favourite things from the month of May.
Beauty wise, I've been loving products I got from America as they're the newest things I have, so you've probably heard me mention all or most of these. The peach body scrub from The Body Shop smells so delicious and is super nice. It's exfoliating and makes my skin super soft after. I use this once or twice a week. A few make-up bits for you: A NYX Blush in Pink Rose, I believe, which is the perfect rosy pink - good for my complexion and is really pigmented. Jackie Oates from Lush is a colour supplement which I've been liking for a lighter base. I kind of hate the feeling of heavy make-up on my skin but this feels satiny and light. I have been enjoying the Maybelline Miss Manga Mascara too, it's probably the best mascara I've used for lengthening my lashes and will give you volume too if you add a few layers. Lastly, I have to mention the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask which is lovely. It softens my skin very nicely and is just generally soothing on the skin.
Possibly one of my favourite topics to talk about: books. I really do enjoy reading now and this month I managed to read just two books. Not my best effort but I'm happy with that. The first book is All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven which I read earlier on in the month and I loved this so much. I would have to say it's one of the most brilliant books I've read in a while. I feel like this will stay with me as I loved the character Finch and felt like I could visualise him so perfectly. It was different although easy to read as I read it fairly quickly, especially the second half of the book. If you've been meaning to read this I would say put it straight to the top of your reading list.

The other book is I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson. This was a brilliant book I would also recommend. Somehow, I think I would have been more wowed by this book if I read it before All The Bright Places as I especially enjoyed that one. However, this really was worth reading and the story itself was so beautiful and quite touching. There was something especially unique about this book, the way it was told and the paint splatters and brush lines throughout to match the mood and themes of the book. Definitely pick up this book as well as All The Bright Places! If you like, follow me on goodreads to see what I rated the books and for future reading.

As for other entertainment, I didn't watch much this month other than starting the first seasons of True Detective and Game of Thrones but haven't ventured very far. One of the things I really enjoyed watching this month was the third season of Sherlock. I watched Sherlock 1 + 2 quite a while ago but never got around to watching Season 3 (I was itching to though) and I absolutely loved it. One of my favourite shows ever. Hurry up Season 4! I've also been enjoying watching YouTube videos and in particular recently I've been liking Casey Neistat's vlogs.

At the start of the month I was obsessed with Arcade Fire's album 'The Suburbs". My favourite songs are on this playlist. I recommend you listening to it!

Aside from that, I've discovered such cool music this month including songs like Coffee by Sylvan Esso, BTSTU (Edit) by Jai Paul and Gasoline by Alpine. A song I've been obsessed with recently, and I can't seem to stop singing is Pillow Talk by Wild Child. It's a soothing and cool song which will leave you humming along.

I've had some Tame Impala in my life this month too, if you haven't heard of them you should definitely give it a try. They're what I would describe as a psychedelic rock band and listening to their songs is kind of what I would image being high to be like. So good! If you have any music recommendations feel free to let me know.
